The itinerary begins in the Napoleonic gardens, also known as the gardens of the Biennale Art Exhibition, continue on into Campo S. Isepo, outside the church cross over the bridge far end of Secco Marina there is an old courtyard with a tiny altar. Continue on to Fondamenta Sant'Anna, turn towards Ponte Quintavalle, wich gives access to the island of S. Pietro di Castello. The view from this long wooden bridge is truly fascinating and definitely not "touristy" it encompasses old shipyard, crooked bell tower of the Basilica di San Pietro, Venice former cathedral, and far off in the distance to the left, the walls and one of the towers of the Arsenale. Cros over the iron brige and Calle Larga, turnig left and walking across Campo Ruga we reach one of the most evocative parts of the city, where the air is filed with the soun and smells of the past. At your right Sottoportico Zurlin, the lowest in the city, cross Campo S. Gioacchino and continue on to Via Garibaldi where you will find a typical Venetian atmosphere. Turn rght towards Ponte and Riva di San Biagio, and continue along Riva degli Schiavoni. Two impressive anchor guard the wonderful collection of memorabilia in the Navy Museum. Outside the Museo Navale take Fondamenta dell'Arsenale, the main entrance to the Arsenale, in the campo of the same name is majestic in style, four lions stand in a row, brought by a Venice Captain as a war trophy. If you need some good food, the area offer some restaurant, one is on Calle del Pestrin "Corte Sconta", definitely reminiscent of Hugo Pratt. Luckily in Venice, if you do not feel like having a full meal, there are still many typical "osterie" offering delicious titbits. Once outside, allow some time to take a look at Campiello del Piovan and Campo de la Bragora, go back to Campo San Martin, cross Ponte dei Penini and walk until you pass under Sottoportego dei Cattivi Pensieri, yet another place that lived on in Pratt's imagination...
